REVIEW: Show Me The Way by A L Jackson

Show Me the Way: A Fight for Me Stand-Alone Novel by [Jackson, A.L.]

Show Me the Way by A.L. Jackson

The first sexy, captivating, standalone novel in the brand-new Fight for Me series from NYT and USA Today best-selling author A.L. Jackson....

Rex Gunner. As bitter as he is beautiful.

The owner of the largest construction company in Gingham Lakes has been burned one too many times. His wife leaving him to raise their daughter was the last blow this single dad could take. The only woman he'll let into his heart is his little girl.

Rynna Dayne. As vulnerable as she is tempting.

She ran from Gingham Lakes when she was 17. She swore to herself she would never return. Then her grandmother passed away and left her the deed to the diner that she once loved.

When Rex meets his new neighbor, he knows he's in trouble.
She's gorgeous and sweet and everything he can't trust.
Until she becomes the one thing he can't resist.
One kiss sends them tumbling toward ecstasy.
But in a town this size, pasts are bound to collide. Caught in a web of lies, betrayal, and disloyalty, Rex must make a choice.
Will he hide behind his walls or will he take the chance....

Caroline's Review

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

OMG! What a beautiful, heart-rending read!

"Everything about Rex Gunner was unique. Blinding in his darkness. Warm in his coldness."

Rynna Dayne is back in Gingham Lakes after running away eleven years ago. She's finally returned, stronger, more confident, and determined to carry on her Gramma's legacy, although beneath the surface, her old fears and hurts haunt her. She never expected to meet Rex Gunner and his adorable little girl, Frankie Leigh. She never expected them to steal her heart.

"Maybe I'd known it then. That this girl would wreck me. Because I could feel myself coming apart. Piece by piece."

Rex Gunner is closed off. He has a handful of good friends, his wonderful mother, and his precious little girl, who is his whole world, his reason for living. The past plagues his dreams, and his guilt is a heavy burden that he carries. He has nothing left to offer, especially to the beautiful woman who moved in across the street, who is threatening his sanity, his peace of mind, and the walls around his heart.

"Maybe what struck me most was there was something sad about him, too. Something helpless and scared beneath all the harsh, hard dominance he wore so well. Something bitter and broken."

This book gripped me straight off the bat. The author had the whole story on full throttle right from the opening lines. It was saturated in electricity, emotions and angst. The connection between the characters sizzled and burned, propelling them forward into a relationship that had Rex kicking and screaming against it, and Rynna welcoming it with open arms, willing to take a chance.

From their first meeting, Rex was grim and rude, but Rynna recognised something in him that called to her. I loved that she never gave up trying to break through to him, and the passion! OMG! Rex was a mass of seething emotions. He was a bubbling cauldron of anger, desire, guilt, and helplessness that was constantly threatening to boil over. He was such a contradiction - so hard and unpleasant toward Rynna but then so, so soft and gentle with his little girl.

"Last two times I touched you nearly ruined me. Seeing you like this? Don't think I'm ever going to be the same. Stealing my sleep. Stealing my breath. Stealing my sanity. Little thief."

This novel totally stole my sleep and stole my breath. It was a fantastic tale with plenty of twists and turns, with flashbacks to the past, weaving a story rich with love, betrayal, despair, and hope.
It was a stunning read.
